The client’s goal is to expand and improve their automotive component manufacturing business by diversifying their product line and expanding into automotive sensor technologies.
Modern automobiles incorporate a wide variety of electronic sensor subsystems, including drivetrain and vehicle control systems, in-cabin sensors that provide information and adjustments to ensure driver safety and comfort, and emissions control. A typical automobile may contain 60-100 sensors and this number is expected to grow to nearly 200 sensors. By 2020, approximately 22 billion sensors will be used annually in the automotive industry.
Technology Reserve’s client currently produces simple components such as relays and horns for markets in China. They desire to expand their current product line to include sensors so they can serve their existing customers and build their business as demand for sensors continues to grow.
Technology Reserve’s client seeks expertise in automotive sensor technologies to improve and expand their current capabilities and product lines. Sensors of particular interest include those for speed, interior temperature, airflow, motion, diesel emissions control, and parking. This expertise may be provided through a partnership including custom design work for the client, or through the licensing of preexisting technologies.
An ideal expert partner will have:
- Automotive sensor and electronic subsystem design and manufacturing expertise
- Experience with sensor manufacturing and packaging equipment
- Willingness to license an existing automotive sensor product or work with client to develop designs
- Ability to transfer necessary IP and technology know-how to the client, and work in tandem with the client’s engineers to enable production of the transferred technology
